A/Prof Christopher Laing, Vice Dean for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS), joined the school in January 2020. He oversees technology-transfer and industry alliances at Duke-NUS. He also leads innovation, commercialization, entrepreneurship, and ecosystem initiatives with the school’s Academic Medicine partner, SingHealth.
From 2017 - 2019, A/Prof Laing was the inaugural executive director of Capital City Innovation, coordinating the innovation district emerging around Austin’s new health complex, anchored by The University of Texas, Ascension Seton, and Central Health. Capital City Innovation has received recognition and awards from the National League of Cities and the Association of University Research Parks.
Previously, A/Prof Laing was VP at Philadelphia’s University City Science Center, the country’s oldest and largest urban innovation hub. There he managed relationships with more than 30 academic institutions and had specific oversight of commercialization programs, start-up investment, and business incubation/acceleration.
A/Prof Laing became an Eisenhower Fellow in 2015, engaging with leaders of China’s emerging urban innovation centres. He is a member of the Philadelphia College of Physicians and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK). He completed his veterinary training and PhD at the University of Sydney and his post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine.
